Members rub elbows with top politicians
at Legislative Reception and Conference

About 600 members and elected officials crammed into the Capital City Club Wednesday night for NCCBI's Legislative Reception. Among them were State Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry and her husband, Norman, (right) who received many good wishes because it was their anniversary. Then we heard the inside scoop on policy issues at Thursday's Legislative Conference. We have complete coverage:

We snapped dozens of pictures at the reception, and they're all here
Please join us in thanking the members who sponsored the events

State Government Watch
A new report says candidates for the General Assembly spent a record $19.4 million running for office last fall. The report by Democracy South, a Chapel Hill think tank, says campaign spending was 26 percent higher than in 1998 and nearly three times what was spent in 1994.
