Smiles seen on
many faces
at NCCBI board's business meeting
With
encouraging reports heard on growth in membership, successes
in the General Assembly and improving finances, the annual
business meeting of the NCCBI Board of Directors brought
smiles to the faces of those attending. With outgoing Chairman
Mac Everett presiding, the board heard reports that:
The annual membership
campaign, under the direction of First Citizens Bank executive
Jim Hyler of Raleigh, set a record with 564 companies joining
the association in the past year. Of those, 389 were brought
in by Hyler's team at First Citizens, 117 were brought in by the
NCCBI staff and 58 were brought in by NCCBI board members.
Everett announced that Hyler had agreed to serve as
"retention chairman" in the coming year to help keep
these new companies in NCCBI.
Substituting for Treasurer
Horace Johnson who could not be there, NCCBI President Phil
Kirk said the association is expected to finish its fiscal
year on March 30 with a budget surplus of around $80,000. He
said the money will be put into a new reserve account.
Incoming Chairman Gordon
Myers of Asheville, the Ingles Markets executive, said he will
emphasize workforce preparedness issues during his term. Myers
said "it is a pleasure for me to have the honor of
serving as your chairman."
The board loudly applauded
the appearance of Sue Cole of Greensboro as NCCBI's new second
vice chairman. She will become the first woman to lead NCCBI
in two years.
