Please contact your legislator about session
limits
A message to all
NCCBI members from President Phil Kirk:
We
need your help now in getting a session limits
bill passed in the N.C. House of Representatives.
The bill, S. 9, passed in the Senate last year
and, because it requires a constitutional
amendment, will require 72 House votes to be
placed on the November ballot. At last week's
NCCBI Legislative Conference, Speaker of the
House Jim Black expressed support for the
legislation. Minority Leader Richard Morgan has
also indicated his support for the bill.
This week, we will be visiting and calling all
House members to determine their position on this
issue, and we are asking that you call your
representatives to encourage their support of
Senate Bill 9. While this issue is a recurring
one that has been discussed for several years, we
believe it has more strength than ever before.
Putting a cap on the length of legislative
sessions is one of NCCBI's top legislative
priorities because lengthy legislative sessions
place a tremendous burden on people who wish to
serve as legislators, particularly those who run
businesses at home. Furthermore, public schools
and state agencies experience difficulties when a
state budget is not adopted by July 1.
Please immediately contact members of the House
representing your district and urge them to
support session limits. Please call Julie
Campbell at 919-836-1402 to let her know comments
you get from your representatives indicating
their support for or opposition to this
legislation.
Thank you for your continued work in your
communities and your continued support of
statewide issues like this one.
