Since
at least the early 1960s, NCCBI has published the weekly
Legislative Bulletin every Friday when the General Assembly
was in session. And for most of those years the banner atop
Page One of the Bulletin featured a picture of the General
Assembly building taken shortly after it first opened (top). We're
not sure exactly how long we've been using the same picture,
but if you look at it under a magnifying glass you can see the
sweeping tailfins of a shiny new 1969 Chevrolet parked beside
the then brand-new legislative building.
Out of a sense of respect for this long heritage, we continued
using the same banner after the Bulletin was converted more
than a year ago to an online news service distributed over the
Internet. But as many readers told us, the grainy, black and white image doesn't
display well on a computer screen. Reluctantly, this week we are
retiring the old banner in favor of a new image of the General
Assembly building (above).
The old banner won't be completely retired. We will continue
to use it for the Bulletin produced for printout and fax
purposes.
We hope the new banner is more pleasing to your eye. But it
does make us wonder whatever happened to that '69 Chevy.
